By having Mike Portnoy do drums on this album they're basically fucking over whatever drummer picks up the reins afterwards. Not a bad song. Obviously the drumming is great, and the main riff screams Hetfield.

I don't know about that. The drumming to me sound more like Portnoy is trying to replicate the old drummer's style.

I really liked that. Among the better A7X songs IMO and I like several of them
-------------------- I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow, to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain, to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human.

Portnoy said in an interview that he would play drum parts similar to what the Rev would have played.
QUOTE Portnoy also said, "I am treating my participation on this album with the utmost respect for Jimmy's memory and am remaining as true as possible to the drum parts that he wrote for the songs and the record he wanted to make."
-------------------- Well, fuck-a-luck-a ding dong.

A few fills sound Train Of Thought-ish. Other than that it's a okay song. Never heard anything from A7X before.

Hated it. Defiantly doesn't sound like Portnoy drumming, at least for the most part.

This coming from the guy who is next to impossible to impress. And I said that not having heard the rest of the album and before Portnoy made the announcement that he was toning himself down. So don't worry your pretty little head over something I've posted.

It really has nothing to do with impressing me. His drumming was objectively not very difficult for an average Metal drummer.
That said, listening to Death Metal, Black Metal and Grind has definitely risen my standards for interesting drumming. -------------------- |

I just realized what the main riff reminds me of, All Nightmare Long.

Coincidence? Probably.
I am admittedly curious to hear the rest of the record though. I was never a huge A7X fan. I did enjoy City of Evil though and this song sounds more like something in that vein than their Self-Titled effort. -------------------- Through the Wishing Well Myspace

Can't say I like that one as much as the first song. It has a couple of decent riffs but I don't care for the lyrics at all.
